20 May A must for all Defence Candidates Schemes for A Green India
KUSUM SCHEME (MINISTRY OF NEW& RENEWABLE ENERGY)
*in the union budget 2018-19, the government has announced kusum (kisan urja suraksha evam utthan mahaabhiyan ) scheme for promoting solar farming .I.E decentralized solar power production.
*Components of the scheme
*building 10,000 mw solar plants on barren lands.
*Providing incentives to discoms (distribution companies) to purchase the electricity produced.
*Sol arising existing pumps of 7250 mw as well as government tube wells with a capacity of 8250mw.
*Distributing 17.5 lakh solar pumps.
*Government will provide 60% subsidy on solar pumps to farmers.
*It will be shared between centre and sates while 30% will be provided through bank loans.
*The balance cost has to be borne by the farmers.
NATIONAL ACTION PLAN ON CLIMATE CHANGE (NAPCC)
*National action on climate change ( Napcc ) is a comprehensive action plan which outlines measures on climate change related adaption and mitigation while simultaneously advancing development.
*It is an umbrella action that brings together a number of the government ‘s existing national plans of water, renewable energy, energy efficiency sustainable agriculture etc.
*The prime minister’s council on climate change is in charge of the overall implantation of the plan.
EIGHT CORE MISSIONS OF NAPCC
*National solar missions-aims at deploying solar power capacity of 100 gw by 2022.
*National mission for enhanced energy efficiency.
*National mission sustainable habitat.
*National water mission-with a goal of a 20% improvement in water use efficiency.
*National mission for sustainable agriculture.
*National mission on strategic knowledge for climate change.
NATIONAL ADAPTATION FUND FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
*The national adaptation fund for climate change (nafcc) was established in 2015 to meet the cost of adapation due to climate change for the state. and union territories of India that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate changes.
*The projects under nafcc prioritize the needs that build climate resilience in the areas identified under the sapcc (state action plan on climate change)and the relevant missions under napcc (national action plan on climate change)
*NABARD has been designated as national implementing entity (nie)for implementation of adaption projects under nafcc.
NATIONAL AIR QUALITY INDEX (MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT FORESTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE)
*To monitor the quality of air in major urban centres across the country on a real –time basis and enhancing public awareness for taking mitigative action.
*The index measures eight major pollutants, namely , particulate matter(10pm and 2.5 pm)nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, oxone , carbon, monoxide, ammonia and lead.
*The index is based on real time monitoring and the health risks are easily identified through a colour coded system.
*The risks are signified through six levels-good satisfactory ,moderately polluted, poor, very poor and severe. air quality is qualified as good if the levels of air pollution is at least 50% below the permissible limits set by the pollution control authorities.
UJALA(MINISTRY OF POWER)
*Ujala (unnat jyoti by affordable leds for all) is a light emitting diode based domestic efficient lighting program me (DELP) that aims to promote efficient lighting, reducing green house gas emissions.
*Under it, every grid-connected consumer having a metered connection gets the led bulbs at subsidized rates.
*Energy efficiency services limited (eesl),a government company under the administrative control of ministry of power is implementing agency for this program me.
CLIMATE RESILIENCE BUILDING AMONG FARMERS THROUGH CROP RESIDUE MANAGEMENT (MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT , FORESTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE)
*It is a regional project to mitigate climate change impacts, enhance adaptive capacity and counter adverse environmental impacts arising from stubble burning.
*It is to be implemented under national adaptation fund for climate change (nafcc).
*The first phase of the project will be implemented in northern states of Punjab, Haryana, uttar Pradesh and rajasthan.
SOLAR CITY (MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY)
*To motivate the local government for adopting renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures.
*It aims at minimum 10%reduction in projected demand of conventional energy at the end of five years.
*Recently ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE ) sanctioned development of 60 solar cities under solar cities scheme.
*In a solar city all types of renewable energy based projects will be installed such as solar, wind biomass ,small hydro, waste to energy etc.
SURYA MITRA SCHEME (MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY)
*To create 50,000 trained solar photovoltaic technicians by march 2020.
*The objective is to provide employability and entrepreneurship to rural and urban youth &women. Special emphasis is given to skill youth from sc/st /Obc categories.
*The program me is 100%funded by central government and implemented by national institute for solar energy (NISE) across the country.
